How To Get Kicked Off A Cruise Ship and Make Thousands of Dollars!

As I am writing this down, I am in shock as to what just happened. I am on an airplane flying back to Oregon, while my wife, three children and in-laws are on a nice sunny ship heading to the Caribbean with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line.

For anyone thinking of going on a cruise, BEWARE of the details that are not in larger print. Not that the cruise line is deceitful, but more insensitive to what seems to be a common problem. I produced the wrong birth certificate right when I was boarding. The same one that got me into college, jobs, etc. is unacceptable if you are boarding a boat. We weren't the only people shuffled off to the side in shock about what was happening. No help, no assistance, just a simple sorry you cannot come onto the ship.

If you are one of the many people considering going on a cruise vacation, make sure you have the proper paperwork. Obviously a passport is bulletproof, but if you are using a birth certificate, you definitely want to read the fine print on the bottom and ensure it is not a hospital birth certificate, but rather a county birth certificate. After leaving the pier and hitching a ride on a shuttle back to the rental car place, it seems like this is a familiar scenario. It would appear that the cruise lines know this, but don't seem to really provide any kind of support when it occurs. To top it off the cruise line told me that since I didn't purchase travel interruption insurance, I needed to go through the travel agent who booked the travel online to try and get a refund. It is almost like rubbing salt into a wound.

I can only hope that the executives at Royal Caribbean and the other cruise lines that serve the ports of this country get wind of this article. Suggestions to the cruise industry and any other travel venue needs to address several items, beginning with doing more to prevent such events from happening and kinder customer service when it does happen.
It wouldn't take much in this electronic and highly automated society to add a feature to reservation confirmations blatantly describing the required needs, not burying it in the pages of mostly irrelevant information.

As I was leaving my crying wife and kids, I promised her that we were going to come back in two months and I mean it! So, rather than sit and mope about something I have no control over, I flew back home from Houston to Oregon and am taking the next 10 days non-stop running to jump-start our internet business. Making 100% commissions on $1000 should not take me to long to save up!
